August 24, 2008 Heather Pennington's Baptism

This is Heather with her dad and Step-mother. Beth had some time to talk to them, and they wanted to know about the Church. I gave them a short version of the 1st lesson, and called the Elders in their area with a referral. They really felt the spirit of the day.

Happy missionaries, Sisters Swain, Sonderegger and Yates and Heather with Aaron Thoming.

We went to Jamestown NY to help with training of Seminary Teachers. On the way home, we went to Volant, PA to see the Amish things and we found this covered bridge that we drove through.
We found this old school with an attached "garage" for Amish buggies, but notice the satellite dish.
We are quite in love with the Amish way of life and their mode of transportation. We passed this buggy on the road.

August 16, 2008 Kelly Kimmel's baptism

As we left the apartment to go to the Baptism, we found the sisters posing on the steps!
Kelly Kimmel is an amazing young woman. She has such a strong testimony, and she was baptized in spite of having a sad heart because of her family being so set against it. The LDS students in her class at dental school were such a support for the last year. Billy Hull a fellow student baptized her, and then it is Kelly, Sisters Swain, Sonderegger and Yates.

Sisters Swain, Yates, and Sonderegger with their shirts on for the service project. We helped with a 5 K race in Edgewood. The sisters and elders directed traffic. The Elders were looking in on the picture.
Here we are at the end of the race. Elder and Sister Chambers handed out water bottles, bananas and cookies.
When we delivered the sisters back home we just had to have a picture. This is so typical of Oakland when people are moving in and out. There are always good things thrown away with the junk. This is how the streets look until garbage day. The sisters Apartment is where the door is open just behind the tall piece of junk .

August 15, 2008

Sister and Elder Chambers, Sisters Swain, Sonderegger, and Yates. This was an unbirthday celebration for Sister Yates and Sister Sonderegger. We were at the Sesame Inn which is a great Chinese Restaurant at Station Square.

This is our Relief Society in the Oakland ward, except there were some that were cut off the picture.

August 6, 2007

We have been so busy lately, but on this afternoon we had a few hours and decided to go to Smicksburg to see if we could see some Amish things. We didn't find much, but this is one of their fields. See how they harvested their grain.
This is the highway that the GPS sent us on and it said we were in a town where we had located some Amish things. It even got smaller before we finally came to another street.
